McArthur: Retailers must support dairy industry

2.17.17pm BST (GMT +0100) Wed 30th Sep 2009

The NFU Scotland have called on milk purchasers to react quickly to the strengthening markets for milk and dairy products by increasing the prices paid to farmers for their milk.

Commenting, Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs Spokesman Liam McArthur said:

“I fully support the NFU Scotland’s stance.  Major retailers must respond positively to this change in the market for milk and dairy products.

“Farmers continue to receive a half pint portion of what it costs to produce their milk.  This situation is simply not sustainable.”
