Commenting Mr Finnie said:

“I am very concerned that people living in West Dunbartonshire are much more likely to get type 2 Diabetes than those living in East Dunbartonshire.

“Individuals in West Dunbartonshire need to recognise the link between type 2 Diabetes and the high levels of obesity, physical inactivity, smoking and unhealthy diet that exist in the area.

“The Government and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde must invest in preventive and anticipatory care, as educating the public on the dangers of diabetes as a priority.

Type 2 Diabetes usually affects middle aged or older people, although more young people who are overweight are being diagnosed. Type 2 Diabetes can lead to Heart Disease, Strokes, Blindness and other life threatening diseases.
