Cameron selling short commitment to UK - Carmichael

12.08.51pm GMT Sun 15th Feb 2009

Commenting on David Cameron’s plans to ban Scottish MPs from voting on ‘English only’ legislation, Liberal Democrat Shadow Scotland Secretary, Alistair Carmichael said:

Alistair Carmichael MP“Yet again, David Cameron has gone shopping for easy votes in Middle England by selling short his commitment to the United Kingdom.

“He must realise that excluding some MPs from some votes in the House of Commons will produce unstable and unworkable government.

“If he were sincere about trying to solve this problem, then he would look seriously at the creation of an English parliament or regional assemblies, whatever the English people themselves decide.”
