Housing assistance must go to those most in need - Finnie

5.21.37pm GMT Wed 21st Jan 2009

Liberal Democrat Housing spokesperson Ross Finnie MSP has demanded assurances from the Scottish Government that those most in need of assistance will receive priority support under proposals to expand housing aid for home owners.

Mr Finnie's comments follow a government statement on the Home Owners Support Fund. Proposals were outlined to build on the existing Mortgage to rent scheme and develop a new Mortgage to Shared Equity scheme.

Commenting, Mr Finnie said:

"This is a demand led system and Liberal Democrats want to make sure that housing assistance is delivered to those most in need.

"The Minister failed to give assurances as to how money will be allocated and prioritised for the most vulnerable at this difficult time."
